After the first year of applying and reviewing is completed, it typically takes another year to find a location for the school and to hire necessary faculty and staff, hence the fall 2021 anticipated opening date.
THE APPROVAL PROCESS
NOTICE OF INTENT (NOI)
Before an application can be submitted, the nonprofit organization must submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) with the Washington State Charter School Commission and inform their respective community. The NOI is not binding and the applicants may choose to not pursue a full proposal. This aids the Commission with New Charter School Application Planning.
The evaluation team provides an official recommendation report based on the Capacity Interview and Proposal. The report will either recommend approval or denial and will then be sent to the Commission for final consideration. Only the Commission has final authority to approve or deny a proposal.
RESOLUTION OF APPROVAL OR DENIAL
The Commission will pass approval or denial resolutions for applicant proposals that will then be presented by a Commissioner at a regularly scheduled Commission Meeting. The resolutions will be voted on and the outcomes are reported to the Washington State Board of Education.
Once an electronic proposal is submitted and deemed complete, the applicant must deliver hard copies to the Commission. Completed proposals will then be reviewed by state and national evaluators.
Applicants whose proposals are denied are welcome to reapply.
Applicants whose proposals are approved will be granted a five-year contract with the Commission that must be executed within ninety days of approval.
