Lewis' Flax:

Native

  • Lewis Flax is good for pollinators like bees and butterflies because it stays green throughout multiple seasons of the year

  • Lewis flax is noted to be good grazing for livestock and wildlife during spring and winter.

  • The seeds and capsules of Lewis Flax provide an important source of food for birds in the fall and winter.

  • Lewis Flax is native to western North America from Alaska south to Baja California, and from the Pacific Coast to the Mississippi River

Our 6th and 7th grade class has been trying to answer the question of whether we should preserve the Palouse Prairie that has 99.9% disappeared.  One of our case studies involved native and invasive plant species and their current role in the Prairie ecosystem.
